22-year-old Alyssa Carson, an astronaut in training since the age of seven, is in the final stages to become the youngest American woman to go to space as part of a 2024 Mission.

Carson is the first person to complete training at all three NASA Space Camps - to Space Academy, Robotics Academy, multiple Sally Ride Camps - and the first person to complete the NASA Passport program. She has visited all 14 NASA Visitor’s Centers and is the youngest graduate of the Advanced Space Academy.

Call Sign Blueberry, Carson has pursued her dream of going to space daily, having taken an interest in space after witnessing three Space Shuttle launches, and thereafter, attending Space Camp seven times.

In 2013, NASA invited Carson to be on the MER 10 panel in Washington, DC to discuss future missions to Mars live on NASA TV.  She was later selected as one of seven ambassadors representing Mars One, a mission to establish a human colony on Mars in 2030.

In 2016, Carson was the youngest to be accepted and graduate the Advanced Possum Academy, officially making her an astronaut trainee and certified to go to space.

Alyssa received her certification in applied astronautics at age 17, certifying her to conduct research missions in suborbital space. In 2019, she enrolled at the Florida Institute of Technology and graduated in 2023, with a B.S. in Astrobiology.  She is currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas, pursuing her PhD.

When she is not in a lab or flying, she can be found working with NATO as an Ambassador or the UN where she was selected one of 17 Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Alyssa has her Rocket License, Advanced Diving Certification (with full face mask), Private Pilot License, Class A Skydiving License and is a Certified Aquanaut.  Alyssa is also the youngest full member ever accepted into the Explorers Club.

More than anything, Alyssa is driven by an insatiable desire to live life to the fullest; to push the boundaries of space travel and make a positive and lasting impact on the world.

Facilitators

Alexandra Brown

Alexandra Brown

Alexandra (Alex) Brown’s collegiate beginnings started in 2015 when she attended Northwestern Michigan College, where she majored in Web Development. As a first-generation college student and member of the Commitment Scholarship program on campus, Alexandra started to immerse herself in the college community in order to get over her shyness. After completing an internship at a web development company, Alexandra learned her passions were serving and inspiring others and not working independently in an office writing code.

At the time, Alexandra was also a work-study student in the Learning Services Department, where she worked directly with Advising and Disability Services. She found passion in serving students in this role, and thus planned a transition to Higher Education. Alexandra completed all three Web Development Certificates and then completed her Associates of Liberal Arts and Sciences from Northwestern Michigan College in 2018. She continued to work in the Learning Services Department and was also a Resident Assistant in the College’s new North Hall dormitory building.

After completing her Associates Degree, Alexandra moved to Kingwood, Texas where she currently resides and completed her Bachelor’s in Integrated Leadership Studies from Central Michigan University in 2020. In her previous role at Lone Star College-Kingwood, Alexandra managed 20+ Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), started an RSO workshop series to develop student leaders and their Advisors on a variety of different topics, and assisted with the facilitation of Student Life events. Her introduction to NSLS started in July 2021 when Alexandra became an Advisor of her newly developed NSLS Chapter on her campus. She found her passion for NSLS through this role and wanted to expand upon that by becoming a Chapter Success Manager.

Outside of the NSLS, Alexandra enjoys spending time with her husband, her daughter (born January 2023), two step-daughters, and four mischievous cats.

Host/MC

Tom Krieglestein

Tom Krieglestein

Tom wasn’t the best student. He graduated high school with a “C” grade point average and got rejected from almost every four-year college he applied to. He did, however, turn his academics around through a series of specific strategies and ended up graduating college with straight As, was named valedictorian, and was honored as an All-USA Academic First Team member which is given to only 20 students in the U.S. each year.

He also started his first business in college, which grew to $1.5 million in annual sales. Since 2004, Tom has trained almost one million people worldwide at some of the largest companies, such as Coca-Cola, Apple, and Nike. He now holds seven national speaking titles from APCA and wrote two Amazon best-selling books on college success.

And on a personal note, Tom lives a few blocks from Steven Colbert just outside of New York City. He was named after a cat. He was on a reality show on NBC. He was featured on the Tofurky (TOE-FUR-KEY) box. He got kicked off the Oprah Winfrey show. He held a Guinness World Record for hugs. And he loves peanut butter so much that he once tried to start a festival called “The New York City Peanut Butter Jam.
