Maureen is both an alum of the University of California, San Diego and a former staffer. Over a 17-year career, she served as an editor, writer, and student wrangler in various departments across the UC San Diego campus, including as the assistant director, NIH training programs (managing the MSTP program) at the UCSD School of Medicine and as the Graduate Coordinator for the Joint Doctoral Program in Public Health (Epidemiology). Every position she held involved working with students, whether it was in a student services role, or as a technical writer/editor working closely with researchers (from undergrad, grad, and medical students to PIs). She missed working with students after leaving UCSD, so was happy when she was approached to become the founding advisor for the NSLS chapter at UCSD five years ago. She current works for San Diego Zoo Global as a senior grant stewardship officer.
